about the artist

Many lucky people belong to families with a shared passion, anything from music or sports to horses or gourmet cookery. The list is endless and as varied as families themselves. Mine is an art family. The process of creating has always been woven through the pattern of our life together. Painting has emerged as my personal way of satisfying that impulse.

Almost any artist will tell you that they have loved to draw since childhood. My  father’s oil company career meant frequent moves and traveling light. No piano or pony for me but I was always able to draw and paint wherever we lived. The wonderful  advantage was in growing up exploring all the regions of the West with parents who instilled in me a deep love of its culture and of nature and the outdoor lifestyle.

I graduated from the University of Montana and later studied interior architecture and design at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Teaching interior design courses aroused my interest in art as a powerful design element and inspired me to begin to  create my own paintings. Classes in oil painting with Steve Seltzer and in pastels from Tom English gave me valuable techniques and a passion for working in these media.

My art continues to reflect a decorative perspective geared toward western homes.  The beauty of the mountains and prairies and their wildlife provides inspiration as well as subject matter for my  paintings. Today I make my home in  Montana’s gorgeous Swan Valley. My cabin/studio sits beside a woodland creek nestled among aspens, birches, tamaracks and evergreens. Naturally I paint trees!  I love creating "treescapes" especially in brilliant autumn colors. Take a look at my glowing wildlife and classic western paintings as well.

My work has been shown at the C. M. Russell Art Show in Great Falls and in galleries and museums around Montana. My pastels and oils are included in private, business and resort collections throughout the country.
